Before you start
Plug in the iron and give it a few minutes to heat up, and then brush the base well with a stiff cleaning brush. The correct setting for the iron is that where the wax does not smoke while ironing, but a very light wisp of smoke comes off the iron when not in contact with the base.
Hot scrape cleaning with RENEW
- Heat up the bar of wax by touching to the iron
- Rub the heated bar to the base and get it fully covered with a thick layer of wax.
- Iron the wax in, making sure it does not smoke. When the topsheet feels warm to the touch, you are done.
- Scrape the wax while it is still warm, the wax scrapings should be clean. If they are not, repeat the hot scrape process until they are.
- Brush aggressively with a stiff brush. We use a fine soft steel brush for that purpose, a brass brush will also work.
Applying Zoom or base conditioning with Renew
- Heat up the bar of wax by touching to the iron. Rub the heated bar to the base and get it fully covered with a thick layer of wax.
- Iron the wax in, making sure it does not smoke. When the topsheet feels warm to the touch, you are done.
- Wait at least three hours, then scrape very well with a sharp plastic scraper.
- Brush well with a brass/horsehair brush.
- Wipe the base with a lint-free paper or cloth.
Applying Bullet
- Heat up the bar of wax by touching to the iron. Rub the heated bar to the base and get it fully covered with a thick layer of wax. This is a hard wax requiring high iron temperature, make sure you have enough wax on the base.
- Iron the wax in, making sure it does not smoke. When the topsheet feels warm to the touch, you are done.
- Wait 15-30 minutes, then scrape very well with a sharp plastic scraper.
- Brush well with a stiff brush. We use a fine soft steel brush but a brass/horsehair brush will also work.
- Wipe the base with a lint-free paper or cloth.
Applying overlays (Butter, Q6 and Rocket)
- Rub the bar on the base to apply a LIGHT coat of wax.
- Buff in using a Scotchbrite pad, a synthetic cork or a nylon stocking.
- Brush well with a brass/horsehair brush (you can skip this step for Rocket).
- Wipe the base with a lint-free paper or cloth.
Applying Momentium
- Use the Scotchbrite pad to spread a very thin layer of Momentium paste on the base. Buff it in well, it should look shiny when you are finished (if it does not shine, you applied too much).
- Wait three to five minutes, then buff again with the Scotchbrite pad, a synthetic cork or a nylon stocking.
- Brush well with a brass/horsehair brush.
- Wipe the base with a lint-free paper or cloth.
